June 1st, 2009 - Fly Fishing 101 Private Or Small Groups
Learn the wonderful sport of Fly Fishing privately or with a group of friends. An on the water class that covers the basics of fly casting, how to create a good loop, changing directions, distance and presentation. We teach you a casting drill you can use to practice in your own back yard or local park after the class. The class also includes reading water, where fish hold and why. The life cycle of aquatic bugs and how fish see them as a food source. Techniques for applying the fly to the water to imitate the bugs as fish naturally see them in the water, dry fly and nymphing techniques. And finally a discussion on lines, leaders, tippets and how to tie them all together. The class runs about 2 hrs and the cost is $75 per person with all equipment provided. June 2nd, 2009 - Avanced Fly Casting
 Advanced Fly Casting


A private class designed for the angler who already has the ability to cast a fly rod , but wants to improve their skills. This class goes deeper into the advanced techniques of fly casting and presentation which will make you more productive on the water. The topics will include the Double Haul which increases line speed leading to greater distances and accuracy. Presentation techniques such as the reach cast, S-cast, Parachute cast and on the water mending techniques including Stack Mending. June 3rd, 2009 - Spey Rod Casting Class
Spey Casting Class. Learn to cast a two handed Spey rod with The Patient Angler. The Spey cast is the fastest growing technique being used to catch Steelhead and Salmon in our Northwest Rivers. The on the water instruction covers the equipment used, including Rods, Reels, Lines & Leaders. The casting techniques for the Single Spey, Circle Spey and Double Spey casts will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced. Fishing applications will be discussed in regards to choice of casts based on wind and water conditions. July 1st, 2009 - Fly Tying 101
Fly Tying 101 Learn how to tie flies in a small class environment. The classes are held at the Patient Angler Fly Shop and covers the most common patterns used in fly fishing. The emphasis of the 101 classes is to teach basic fly tying techniques, how to use the tools of the trade, how to read recipes and picking quality materials for fly patterns. We not only teach how to tie each new pattern, but we also discuss how and where you would fish it. All materials for the classes will be provided, but you must have your own vise and tools. If you don’t have the vise and tools needed, we can help you get set up before the first class.

July 2nd, 2009 - Advanced Fly Tying
Advanced Fly Tying

  This class is for people who already have some experience tying flies or has completed the Fly Tying 101 class and wants to advance their skills and learn new patterns. The advanced classes are less structured in regards to the patterns that are tied. There are some more advanced tying skills we try to incorporate into the advanced classes, but we let the students pick the types of patterns to tie in the class. Trout, bass, steelhead, lake flies, saltwater or any combination can be tied. Materials will be provided, but you must have your own tools.

June 27th, 2010 - Fly Fishing Schools at Lake In The Dunes
June 27 . Learn to fly fish in a very productive private water setting in the beautiful high desert. A full day of fly fishing instruction starting with the intro to fly casting class. After learning how to cast a fly and some basic fishing techniques, we move onto the water to apply your new found skills. After working with you on techniques and catching and releasing a few fish, we take a relaxing lunch break on the deck of the cabin and reflect on the ones you caught…and the ones your planning to catch after lunch. When everybody is fed and rested, it’s back out on the lakes for an afternoon of learning to fly fish for trophy trout. You can bring your own equipment or we can completely outfit you for the day.
