Though the weather is getting colder and some anglers are hanging up the waders for the winter, there's still some great fishing around Central Oregon! Now's the time to get on water, hit some fun hatches, and have a shot at some nice fish.
Egg season is here! A great year for chinook in the Deschutes has resulted in the trout keying in hard on their eggs. We've had a great few days nymphing the Lower with these patterns recently, the fish are numerous and in great condition. This technique will also work well on the Crooked as the whitefish begin their spawning efforts. It never hurts to fish eggs on the Fall River either.
As far as hatches go now, BWOs and midges are dominant. These bugs will be our most reliable bets for dry fly fishing for the next few months. Look for them in the late morning and into the afternoon.
Now can also be a great time to fish streamers. There are still plenty of bull trout in the Metolius, and the big browns closer to town are active as well.
